Mpa’a Manca is the tradional dance of people living in Bima. It is played by two men. Each of the men is armed with a sword. Mpa’a Manca relies on the physical strength and the capability to play the sword, whether in striking or fending off the strikes. Historically, Mpa'a Manca is inspired from young men’s acts when fighting against their enemies in battle. According to the ancestor, when a young man went for a fighting, it was his aunt who had to hand over the sword he would bring. (in Bimanese, aunt is manca). Therefore, this performance is then called Mpa'a Manca. It is believed that by doing this, the man would have the magical power that took him to the victory.
